Equipment:
Heating source
Pot
Mixing spoon
Glass jar with lid for storage
Ingredients
1 cup water
1 cup raw sugar*
1 cup moonshine
1/2 cup brandy
1 tsp Butterscotch extract
Directions
Place your pot on your heat source. Add the sugar and the water into the pot.
Cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Keep a close eye on your pot so the sugar does not burn.
Once the sugar is completely dissolved, remove the pot from heat and allow it to cool completely.
These steps have made a ‘simple syrup’.
Once your simple syrup has cooled completely, you can add food coloring to give it its rich brown coloring if you used regular sugar. If you used raw sugar, your syrup will already be a nice brown hue.
Once your syrup has cooled completely you are ready to assemble the rest of the ingredients.
Fill a clean mason jar with your moonshine.
Add your simple syrup.
Add ½ cup of brandy
Add 1 tsp butterscotch extract.
Once all the ingredients have been added to the jar, place the lid on securely and shake for about 30 seconds. Allow the moonshine to sit for about 48 hours and you are ready to enjoy!
Recipe Note
*The base of this recipe is a simple syrup. A raw syrup is made by combining sugar into boiling water. By using raw sugar in this recipe your simple syrup will have a rich brown color. If you do not have raw sugar you can still achieve a simple syrup, but you will need to color it with food coloring to achieve the same desired look.
To make brown food coloring using primary colors:
Mix red and yellow in a 1:10 ratio (1 drop red to 10 drops yellow) for tan. Add 1 drop blue for a darker brown.
This simple recipe makes a sweet moonshine that is sure to be a real crowd pleaser. While you are likely to want to keep all of this sweet treat to yourself (all it will take is one taste) it also makes a great gift!
Consider splitting your recipe into smaller 250ml mason jars for a wonderful hostess or holiday gift. Dress up the jars with some simple ribbon and you have an instant hit.
